Know All About Labioplasty Surgery

The labioplasty is a surgery to reshape or reduce the size of the labia minora, the small internal labia on each side of the vaginal opening. Women consider performing a labiaplasty for several reasons, from pain and discomfort to reduction in size and improvement of symmetry.

The enlargement of the labia minora may be evident from childhood, but in most cases, it is acquired, caused by childbirth, age or infection. It can disturb the patient in a functional way or aesthetically. The procedure removes the skin and mucosa so that the scar is barely visible. The procedure can be combined with a reduction of the hood of the clitoris and surgery of the labia majora.

Surgery Duration

The labioplasty procedure typically takes one to three hours depending on whether it is performed with additional procedures. General anesthesia is given to the patient. However, in some patients, local anesthesia may be chosen.

The patient can leave the clinic on the same day surgery after recovery from anesthesia. Most patients opt for general anesthetic when undergoing a labiaplasty, so they won’t feel any pain. Any discomfort or pain experienced after the surgery will be controlled with medication provided by the doctor and this will usually subside within a few days. Discomfort is usually the result of swelling which tends to subside after the first days of recovery.

Labioplasty Side Effects

When the meticulous technique is applied, the procedure is without any major side effects. Sometimes breakdown of the wound may occur, but healing with local wound care resolves the problem. In some patients, the scar tends to broaden, which can be corrected later.

Patients can return to work after one week. But the surgical area may be swollen for 4-6 weeks.

Suitability for Labioplasty

Suitability for labiaplasty is decided through detailed consultation with an experienced surgeon who is in performing labial surgery.

Cost Of Labioplasty

The cost of labiaplasty in India varies from INR 50K to 1Lac. This can only be determined during a consultation with your surgeon and then you can quote an exact price.
