For Figo Overview
Given an option to choose a car for the urban background, there are strong chances that majority of people will pick a hatch and the reason for that is they are small and thus can be easily karted around corners and lanes. Some of them are also fun to drive, provided the maker injects some level of enthusiasm in the motor.
The Ford Figo, launched in 2009, wads one such hatchback that combined practicality with decent levels of driving pleasure. It helped Ford become a popular brand as India’s love for small cars has always been very strong. Post the launch of Ecosport, the perception of the brand has completely evolved from just another car maker to a more matured and responsible manufacturer making cars keeping safety and innovation as key aspects. For Figo in Tryaldrive.
And Ford doesn’t want the momentum to drop which can be seen with the launch of the Figo Aspire followed quickly by the new Figo. The former, though still new, is already making its presence felt while the latter’s battle with the erstwhile leader begins now. How does it fair against its rivals, we find out in our first impression report.
For Figo Exterior & Style
Now, like we already did mention before the Figo Sport S edition will be based on the top end Titanium Plus trim and will get few significant changes on its exterior. The biggest change, however, comes in the form of new 15-inch alloy wheels finished in Black. The front grille also will be finished in Black color, while the headlamps will also get smoked headlights as well. The side profile of the hatchback gets an ORVM’s finished in Black and like we said the side profile also gets bigger 15-inch alloy wheels as well. The S variant will also get a dual tone exterior body colour option with a Black finished roof as well. Towards the rear profile, this special edition Sports variant will get an integrated roof spoiler which is not available with other options. Lastly, to differentiate the Sports variant from the other trim levels, it will also get a Sports badge as well towards the rear profile.
For Figo Interior & Comfort
The layout of the interiors is identical to the regular Figo. The dashboard features an all-black colour theme along with piano black inserts on the steering wheel. Since the Sports Edition is based on the Titanium trim, it gets the MyFord Dock system and only 2 airbags, along with ABS, EBD and EPAS. You get other features like automatic climate control, MID on the instrument cluster, steering mounted controls and remote unlocking. The seats, gear lever cover and steering wheel cover come with red stitching.
For Figo Engine & Performance
The Ford Figo S is offered with both 1.2 Litre Petrol and diesel engine options. We are pretty sure that Ford won’t be making any changes to the drivetrain and thus the 1.2 Litre, 4 Cylinder unit capable of producing about 86.8 bhp of peak power at 6300 rpm and 112 Nm of peak torque at 4250 rpm. This engine is offered only with the 5 speed manual transmission. The diesel drivetrain on the hand gets the 1.5 Litre, 4 Cylinder unit which produces about 98.6 bhp of peak power at 3750 rpm and 215 Nm of torque in between 1750-3000 rpm. This engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as well. For For Figo visit controlenter.in
Both the engines are mated to a smooth shifting 5-speed manual gearbox and the clutch is fairly light. The weight of the Sports edition has increased by around 20 kgs compared to the regular Figo but despite the additional weight, there is no noticeable difference in the performance of the diesel engine. The power to weight ratio is still very good and that’s what makes the Figo a good performer. However, fuel efficiency on the petrol engine has dropped from 18.16 km/l to 18.12 km/l while for the diesel engine it has dropped from 25.83 km/l to 24.29 km/l.
Expect the fuel efficiency figures of the upcoming variant to remain the same as there are no mechanical changes under the hood. The ARAI rated Petrol fuel efficiency figures is rated at 17 KMPL, while the diesel variant ARAI rated fuel efficiency figures is rated at 25.83 KMPL.
The suspension setup is tweaked towards providing a softer ride, as it managed to take undulations with great confidence. The segment rivaling ground clearance of 174mm relieves you of any stress about the underbody getting bruised on an unpleasant surface. While the independent suspensions do their bit to absorb the disturbances, the insulation inside the cabin doesn’t let any of that seep inside keeping the occupants completely inert of the rough surface. Standard on all variants are disc brakes for front and ventilated on the rear. They provide enough bite to make sure the vehicle can be brought to a standstill without much drama.
For Figo Safety & Security
The Ford Figo Titanium+ trim gets plenty of safety features for its occupants which include ABS, EBD, ESP, TCS and HLA along with passenger airbag. The side and curtain airbags is available as an option. Expect this safety features to be carried over to the Sports variant as well.

For Figo Verdict
The changes on the Figo Sports Edition are mainly to the interiors and exteriors while the suspension changes have made the car more fun. We have always stated that the Figo is a fun to drive car offered as a value for money proposition and there is no denying to this fact. But, the Sports Edition loses out on some features that are offered in the regular Figo in the Titanium Plus trim, so there’s a trade-off between a higher variant with more features or a lower variant with sporty additions and that’s what the buyer needs to think and decide, since the Sports Edition and the Titanium Plus cost almost the same on the road.
